100 Libraries for Equality

Concept Note

100 Libraries for Equality

Commemorating 100 Years of Mahad Satyagraha as World Revolution Day

Background

On March 20, 1927, Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar led the historic Mahad Satyagraha, asserting Dalits’ right to access public water and, more importantly, to assert their fundamental human rights. This act sparked the beginning of the Ambedkarite Revolution—a revolution centered on dignity, equality, and annihilation of caste.

As we mark the centenary of the Mahad Satyagraha in 2027, it is not just a time for celebration but a call to carry forward its legacy. Knowledge and education were the core tools of Babasaheb’s social revolution.

The Initiative: 100 Libraries for Equality

To honor this legacy, we propose the establishment of 100 Ambedkarite People's Libraries across India under the banner of World Revolution Day 2027. These libraries will act as public learning spaces, especially in marginalized communities, fostering awareness, dialogue, and social change.

Objectives

  • Promote reading and critical thinking in historically excluded communities.

  • Provide access to Ambedkarite, anti-caste, feminist, and constitutional literature in regional languages.

  • Serve as community hubs for youth, women, and social movements.

  • Spark local activism through knowledge-building and cultural engagement.

Key Features

  • Name: Samta Granthalay (People's Library of Equality)

  • Core Collection: 500–2000 books per library
